We will make you a leader!

Become an Officer in the Massachusetts Army National Guard! Lead Soldiers as a Commissioned Officer or as a technical expert as a Warrant Officer.

Officers are the army leaders. They hold positions of tremendous authority and are responsible for completing demanding missions while ensuring welfare, morale, and professional development of the Soldier entrusted to them. To become an officer in the National Guard, you will need either a college degree or military experience. If you do not already hold a four-year degree, the Guard can help you with different educational packages that the Guard offers.



As leaders, Commissioned Officers constantly validate themselves as Army Strong by having the strength to inspire strength in others!

Officer Candidate Program

Officer Candidate School, also known as OCS, provides an opportunity for graduates who desire a challenging management position in one of sixteen career fields. The National Guard offers a few different programs to complete this challenging and rewarding program.

Reserve Officers Training Corps

Army Reserve Officers' Training Corps, also known as ROTC, is one best leadership courses in the country and is part of your college curriculum. During Classes, leadership labs, and physical training and field exercises, you will learn first hand what it takes to lead others, motivate groups, and conduct missions as an Officer in the Army. Upon completion of college you will have earned the bar of Second Lieutenant and become a Commissioned Officer.

Direct Commission

Direct commission is one of the ways to become an officer in the Guard. A member of the chain of command nominates you for appointment as an officer, based on your professional skills (medical professional, legal or chaplain). Contact your local recruiter for information and program details.



The best path just might be a leadership role as a commissioned officer in the Army National Guard.
