What is the Recruit Sustainment Program?

The intent of this program is help prepare the Initial Active Duty Training Soldier by training and mentoring them prior to shipping out for Basic Training. The goal of RSP is to reduce Basic Training failures by introducing newly enlisted soldier to the military environment, and to ease their adjustment to Basic Combat and Advance Individual Training.

Once the non-prior applicant begins RSP training he or she is referred to as "Warriors", for the physical and mental rigors of initial active duty for training (IADT); instill the seven army values in each Warrior; verify Warriors are administratively, mentally and physically prepared to meet shipping requirements.

Training Concept

The Recruit Sustainment Program will incorporate instruction in; Academic, Physical Readiness, and Warrior Task Training. Each Warrior will be screened for administration problems as well as height/weight and physical fitness. New Warriors will progress through different phases of Soldier Training Readiness Modules (STRM) training while attending the RSP Course.

RECRUIT SUSTAINMENT PROGRAM (PHASES)

New Warriors assigned to the RSP will progress through 4 Phases of STRM training, typically over the course of 5 or more drill weekends:

Red Phase (1st Drill): Red Phase introduces the new Warrior to the basics of the Army National Guard: Physical Readiness Training, Drill & Ceremonies, Army Rank, National Guard History and more. It is the first step in the transition between civilian and Soldier.

White Phase (2nd - 5th Drill): White Phase varies in length (usually 2-3 drills) and is designed to mimic the training Warriors will receive while at Basic Combat Training (BCT). Warriors are introduced to the such topics as the Army Values & Warrior Ethos, Military Customs and Courtesies, Map Reading, Military Communications, First Aid, and the M16A/A4 Rifle.

Blue Phase (Drill prior to shipping): Blue Phase takes place on the last drill weekend prior to the Warrior shipping to BCT. Blue Phase is designed to ensure that the Warrior is administratively and mentally prepared to ship to BCT, and that any issues are identified and corrected.

Gold Phase (Drill after graduating AIT/OSUT):
After graduating from AIT/OSUT, the new Soldiers perform one last drill with the RSP prior to reporting to their new units. Gold Phase ensures a smooth transition from the training site back to the Massachusetts Army National Guard, and introduces them to a representative from their gaining unit. Gold Phase concludes with a graduation ceremony open to family members, where promotions and awards received during training are presented.

Green Phase (Split Option Soldiers): Soldiers who enlist under the Split Option program drill with the RSP in Green Phase between BCT and AIT/Phase II OSUT. Green Phase training re-enforces Soldier skills learned at BCT, and also provides the Split Option Soldiers with the opportunity to grow as future Army leaders.
